What Cyprus Tax Returns Are Due During 2022 for Expats?

Income Tax

If your income is less than the Cyprus personal allowance of €19500 (approx. £17k) per year then no tax return is due.

The full year return for 2021 is due electronically by 31 July 2022 for employees & pensioners (see all deadlines).

The date is subject to adaptions and date changes as experienced these last two covid years.

Flat Rate Tax

However Cyprus has flat rate taxes with no allowances and these income will require a return with payment and sometimes in a full return.

Incomes subjected to flat rate taxes include:

  • Dividends

  • Interests

  • Property rental income

  • Health Tax

  • Social insurance

  • Property sale for capital gains tax

Non-dom

Expats could register as non-dom to Cyprus and get an exemption to pay these taxes at a 0% rate.

The income must be declared in Cyprus and tax must be paid, albeit at 0%. This avoids double taxation in your home country or country of tax residence as tax has been technically been paid

Business tax returns

Soul traders earning over €70,000 a year and all Cyprus registered companies must have a full audit and tax return each year.

These tax returns are due within 9 to 15 months after the end of the tax year.
